Between multiple responsibilities and dynamic workdays, Koushal shares what his daily life at Novaterra looks like.

Hello Koushal! Tell us about your professional background.

During my secondary school years, I developed a particular interest in mathematics, statistics and business-related subjects. These fields helped me acquire strong analytical and task management skills. After completing my HSC in 2018, I chose to pursue my studies in human resources at the University of Technology, Mauritius (UTM), through a BSc in Human Resource Management. I graduated in 2022 with Second Class First Division honours (2:1), as well as a distinction for my dissertation, an achievement I am particularly proud of.

Tell us about your role as HR Officer at Novaterra and how it has evolved.

My role goes beyond the traditional responsibilities usually associated with this position. Our HR department supports not only Novaterra, but also several clusters of the Terra Group, making our mission both versatile and rewarding. In particular, I manage a recruitment portfolio through our e-recruitment platform. I am also involved in managing training plans for different entities, as well as coordinating internal and external training sessions for more than 250 employees.

Over time, my role has evolved, with greater involvement in Group HR projects. I had the opportunity to contribute to our recent “Top Employer” re-certification, which was a very enriching experience. I also had the chance to collaborate with colleagues and managers from different entities within the Terra Group, allowing me to broaden my understanding of the HR profession and strengthen my ability to adapt.

What are the most rewarding aspects of your work? And what are the challenges?

One of the aspects that motivates me the most is the recognition and appreciation I receive from my manager and colleagues. I also value the strong collaboration within the team, which enables us to successfully carry out various HR projects, activities and high-impact initiatives for our respective clusters. The main challenge lies in the need to understand and adapt to the realities of each entity. Each cluster has its own operations, priorities and working conditions, which requires active listening, flexibility and a strong ability to adapt.

What does being part of the Novateam look like on a daily basis?

It means evolving in a collaborative and dynamic work environment. I have the opportunity to interact with different departments and managers, which makes each day enriching. It also means contributing to Novaterra’s achievements and projects, while working in a pleasant setting at the heart of Beau Plan Business Park, where the environment encourages collaboration, engagement and well-being at work.
