When architecture enhances its surroundings
Rethinking the architecture of the traditional shopping center to create a memorable experience for its visitors. This was the challenge of Pierre-Yves Serret and his team at Architects Studio when designing the Mahogany Shopping Promenade.
‘’The visitor will notice that, unlike other shopping centers, the Mahogany Shopping Promenade faces the lake and invites nature in its interior,’’ says Pierre-Yves. This architectural choice is the evidence of a strong desire from Novaterra to make Mahogany an enjoyable, inclusive and sustainable space.
The objective was above all to offer to the inhabitants of Beau Plan and the neighboring regions a pleasant place, designed on a human scale and in harmony with nature. According to Pierre-Yves Serret, ‘’beyond its architecture, the Mahogany project forms part of a bigger landscaping strategy which aims to enhance the region’s natural as well as its industrial heritage.’’ In that respect, the Mahogany Shopping Promenade distinguishes itself with its sleek lines, sophisticated design and the use of organic and industrial materials.
Other major assets of the place: the retail park has been designed to showcase the century-old mahogany tree, the lake and the existing natural surroundings. It is therefore safe to say that Architects Studio has successfully executed this project. In fact, the latter is at its second successful collaboration with Novaterra, after the development of the African Leadership University campus, in 2018.
