A perfect balance of aesthetics, resilience, and practicality — this is how the landscaping at Isla Padel can best be described. The gardens were designed by a landscape architect who focused on creating a functional environment without sacrificing visual appeal. In fact, regular visitors would say the beauty of the space is one of its strongest features. The approach was to restore part of the natural setting, with a particular focus on the flamboyant trees surrounding the old ruins, while adding a rustic touch to the overall design. “We considered our island’s tropical climate carefully when selecting new plant species,” explains Cheshta Hurnauth, Landscaping Lead at Novaterra. “We made sure to choose plants with low water requirements to help preserve our natural resources.” The team favored low-maintenance, drought-resistant varieties while maintaining a tropical look and feel. Allamanda, ruellia, and thespesia populnea bring vibrant color to the garden, while dianella tasmanica and hymenocallis littoralis fill in the flower beds and continue to thrive even in the dry season. A feast for the eyes and a smart, sustainable choice.
The final touch comes in the form of palm trees, a tropical staple. Species like veitchia merrillii frame the space beautifully and add to the site’s distinctive charm.
