The centre has successfully reinvented itself by proposing innovative activities and hosting a variety of events, including weddings, birthdays, corporate parties, cultural events, cinema nights, galas, and end-of-year parties. To learn more about the centre’s performance, we spoke with Sandrine Marrier d’Unienville, Manager of Cultural Development and Communication.
What were the highlights of 2022?
L’Aventure du Sucre’s comeback itself was a significant moment, along with the launch of their new website in mid-December, which coincided with their 20th anniversary.
What’s coming for 2023?
Looking ahead to 2023, L’Aventure du Sucre has several plans in store. In mid-February, they will unveil the largest comic strip in Mauritius, which measures over 25 metres long and tells the story of the sugarcane production process. The centre has enlisted the help of illustrator Thierry Permal, with whom we have collaborated on various projects in the past.
The centre is also waiting for its Made in Moris certification, which will make it the first creative and cultural site to be labelled. They are installing over 50 QR codes throughout the museum and gardens, which will redirect visitors to the #MardiCulture episodes produced during the lockdown, as well as some workshops and recipes to enrich the interactive tour.
In mid-March, L’Aventure du Sucre is launching the Planet’R exhibition, a temporary exhibition devoted to the 5Rs (Rethink – Reduce – Reuse – Recycle – Return to the earth) and sustainable development.
What should we expect for Planet’R?
The exhibition aims to raise awareness among young people about sustainable development and the challenges of a more responsible society, addressing themes such as food, energy consumption, housing, transportation, textiles, waste management, and valorization, and electronics. Local artists have created playful and educational content that will motivate the public to act in favour of the planet.
Overall, L’Aventure du Sucre’s strong performance in 2022 and exciting plans for 2023 inspire confidence and enthusiasm for the future.
